SMACKER final conference will take place in Vienna on 24 May 2022 as a hybrid event. Main findings based on 6 pilot areas and 10 further regions that participated in an Enlarged Transfer Programme (ETP) will be presented and discussed. SRM and BKK as POLIS members will present SMACKER at the 2021 POLIS Conference in Goteborg (SE) on 1-2 December 2021. The presentation will focus on boosting sustainable connections between Central Europe low population density areas and the TEN-T network through DRT. Austrian Partners BOKU and RMO presented SMACKER at the meeting of the Platform “Sustainable Mobility in Tourism” within the National Austrian Tourism Mobility Day in Linz, Upper Austria. Nudging and communication activities in support of pilot actions raised particular attention as the key to increase the usage of these services. Read more about these options here.

BKK has implemented an online service request system for local DRT lines. During the 1-year pilot 527 passengers registred and 60% of them traveled regularly and frequently used the system. As both the users and the transport operator were satisfied, the online request system will be available for at least one further year on https://telebusz.bkk.hu/.

The bus-on-demand service “ColBus” is now active and available for booking on weekends and holydays until 12 Sept. 2021! It covers last-mile mobility in the Apennine rural area of the Bologna metropolitan city, connecting railway stations and railroads with bus stops around the area. The online DRT service of BKK is available since 14 December through https://telebusz.bkk.hu/. Passengers can send their request through PC or smartphone, the platform is available in Hungarian and English. Despite COVID, more than 200 participants registered in December and currently there are 6 (partly) demand responsive lines operated by BKK in Budapest!

For the implementation of SMACKER pilot actions, the understanding of political and legal framework is essential. This report provides an overview of political and legal framework related to public transport of the EU and into legislation of six partner countries – Austria, Czech Republic, Hungary, Italy, Poland and Slovenia. Insight in regions’ specifics delineates different basic conditions in which SMACKER pilot actions will be implemented.
