Pilot Site Visit in Magdeburg

On November 24, ReSites partners took part in an interesting site visit of the Rothensee brownfields in Magdeburg. Magdeburg-Rothensee is a commercial and industrial area of about 1.000 hectares. It is located in the northern part of the city of Magdeburg (Saxony-Anhalt, Germany) alongside the river Elbe. Highly polluting industries, such as the production of coal products, led to a specific contamination of soil and ground water during the 20th century. Since the last 10 years the site has undergone a large process of remediation to clean up the soil and the groundwater to allow the reuse for manufacturing, trade, logistics and services During the site visits, ReSites partners visited some of the newly settled companies and got a clear understanding of the challenges faced in this brownfield area
