FabLabNet

The FabLabNet project has officially ended in June 2019. The tested Pilot activities, High Level Training, Fab City, Fab Fest, Fab Box have successfully resulted in promoting bottom up innovation. We've engaged and trained more than 30.000 persons, built up prototypes, assisted start-ups for reaching the market. We've proposed solutions for climate change, gender gap, disabilities. We've contaminated industry, artisans, universities, schools, citizens, associations.

The Central Europe Network of FabLab is active and open for keep these results alive: join us!

ECSITE DIRECTORS FORUM 2018

FabLabNet had the privilege to attend the 2018 edition of ECSITE Directors Forum 2018, which theme was  "Science engagement organisations as Citizen labs".

Throughout the three days event, leading experts in the Science Centres and Museums world discussed together the importance of citizen cultural activism through a Open Innovation, Open Science, Open to the world approach: the pillars on which also FabLabNet is based! 

As a take away message we reccomend this reading from Artur Serra, keynote at the event.

FOCUS: TACKLING THE GENDER GAP IN FABLABS

DURING OUR LAST PROJECT MEETING (LJUBLJANA, 24–25 SEPTEMBER 2018)  an interesting point emerged above all the project technical reports:

even though all FabLabNet partners recognize the importance of reaching gender equality in FabLabs, in our network we had very different experiences in deploying practical activities to target gender issues...

We therefore thought that publishing a brief note about the gender equality in FabLabNet could be useful for the various managers, educators, and policy makers who are working to reach UN Sustainable Development Goal 5 in STEM fields...

ABOUT US

BACKGROUND

The new phenomenon of fabrication laboratories (fablabs) marks the advent of the 3rd industrial revolution where collaboration, sharing, community & innovation shapes our economy. Fablabs are technical prototyping platforms for innovation and invention inviting the society at large to become innovators. Easily deployable to remote areas, fablabs can also contribute to smart & inclusive growth by decreasing regional disparities in innovation. 

THE PROJECT

FabLabNet aims to foster international networks and links both with schools and businesses. The project joins a number of fablabs into a central European network: 9 project partners - inspired by and strictly connected to 11 associated partners - share experiences and develop activities to boost their knowledge and capacity, following trends set by the European movement that emphasizes new business models, and marks the difference in current cultural & business world.

THE AIM

While local Smart Specialization Strategies (local S3) are the starting point to determine the distinctive features of each single fablab, the project objective is to uncover & share effective technical & organizational resources among the network, to develop innovative services for local communities, business and educational institutions and to set up and fine tune efficient communication. Pilot activities, both at national and transnational level, help the project to root & spread its well assessed knowledge, practices and capacities in a European horizon, a framework that connects the world of fablabs with a fully developed, advanced business field.
