MaGICLandscapes Final Conference & Green Infrastructure Symposium

Over the last two and half years, 10 project partners from 5 countries in the frame of the Interreg Central Europe project MaGICLandscapes have been intensively researching the functionality of green infrastructure (GI) in the peri-urban and rural context. An integrated network of functioning green spaces is a basic recipe for enhancing the resilience of cities and regions with regard to the effects of climate change, such as extreme weather conditions and biodiversity loss.

The results of the project and the tools developed will be presented at the Final Conference on 27th May 2020 at the Technische Universität Dresden. You are cordially invited to attend this conference. The content will include transnational and regional studies on the spatial analysis of green infrastructure in central Europe, its ecological functionality and its ecosystem services and potential. With reference to 9 case study areas the project partners will demonstrate how selected elements of green infrastructure are effective at the local level and which public benefits they can provide. They will discuss recommendations how existing GI elements can be enhanced and interconnected, and how new green infrastructure can be created.

You are also invited to attend the International Symposium on Green Infrastructure on the following day, 28th May 2020, at the same venue. At this occasion experts from science and practice from all over Europe will meet to reflect on green infrastructure and its services from a variety of perspectives and experiences. The symposium will stimulate identification and discussion of opportunities and challenges for a wider inter-sectoral recognition of the concept of green infrastructure, its benefits and its adoption in policies and planning at the European, national and regional level.

We are looking forward to welcoming You at the conference and at the symposium!

Deadline for registration is the 30th of April 2020.

EU Green Week

1-5 June 2020

EU Green Week 2020 will focus on nature and biodiversity. All around the globe, biodiversity is disappearing as a result of unsustainable human activities. This loss is closely connected to climate change, and the combined effect of this unprecedented crisis is disrupting the ecosystems that support life on Earth, with devastating consequences for human well-being and prosperity. While the situation is extremely serious, there is still hope. Solutions exist, but they require deep and transformative changes in the way we produce, consume and trade.

EU Green Week will explore possible pathways for change, and examine how a range of EU policies like the European Green Deal can help protect, restore and sustainably manage nature, leaving it room to recover and thrive. This year’s Green Week will act as a milestone on the path to the COP 15 conference in Kunming, China, in October 2020, where world leaders will adopt a new 10-year action plan for biodiversity – a new global deal for people and nature.

2020 will be a landmark year. EU Green Week 2020 is your opportunity to meet up with people at the heart of the process.
