Via audio-tour through the Zicker Mountains Nature Reserve, Germany

March 9th 2020, Groß Zicker, Germany - In the framework of CEETO project, the UNESCO Biosphere Reserve Southeast Rügen Managing Authority developed an audio-tour across the Zicker Mountains to raise awareness on the natural values of the area.

In summer 2019, as part of the Interreg CEETO Project, the UNESCO Biosphere Reserve Southeast-Rügen in cooperation with the Mönchgut tourist administration and other local actors, created an audio hiking tour through the Zicker Berge nature reserve. This initiative was implemented with the objective of raising awareness among visitors on the natural peculiarities of the area and to encourage a positive and respectful behavior towards it. Now, just in time for the coming spring hiking season, the audio-tour is available in English.

The audio-tour is planned as an itinerary with a total of 14 points of interest along the designated hiking trails. In them, locals and visitors can get additional information on the nature reserve with its special animal and plant species as well as on the history of the settlement and current land use in the region. The guide includes stories from the local stakeholders in German and English. The stories were professionally written and translated and recorded by German and English mother tongue voice-over professionals. The audio-guide, including pictures and short descriptions can be accessed online and offline (download option) via the Smartphone application “izi.TRAVEL” or directly via the website. The app has an auto-play function – if the GPS tracking system is activated, the audio guide will automatically play the linked GPS sequence.

Additionally, a promotion campaign for the audio-guide was carried out. This included different publications such as press releases, publications on the Biosphere Reserve´s website, and articles on social media channels of partners, printed QR codes in the field linking to the izi.TRAVEL application and printed promotional postcards.
