What is your specific regional challenge that let you take part in SubNodes?
Lombardy Region is a densely populated region, in which there are more than 16.4 M of trips/day (figures referred to 2014). Many people every day are moving for many reasons, not only commuters, but also people moving for other reasons, to make purchases, to perform personal tasks, etc. Lombardy’s transport network is very well-structured, but we work every day to improve infrastructures and reduce congestion. Milan is located at the centre of the region and it is the centre from many others points of view. Milan is the meeting point for main accessibility and crossing flows interesting various modes of transport. Nevertheless, we need also to improve other regional hubs, creating attractive intermodal hubs to connect the whole region.	La Lombardia è una regione densamente popolata, in cui si registrano oltre 16,4 mln di spostamenti al giorno (dati 2014). Moltissime persone ogni giorno si spostano per le ragioni più diverse, non solo pendolari ma anche persone che si spostano per altri motivi (acquisti, motivi personali, etc.). La rete di trasporti lombarda è molto articolata, ma lavoriamo ogni giorno per migliorare le infrastrutture e ridurre la congestione. Il centro della regione è Milano, che è anche il centro della rete di trasporto. A Milano si intersecano vari flussi, riferiti a vari modi di trasporto. E‘ tuttavia necessario migliorare anche gli altri hub regionali, creando hub intermodali efficienti che permettano di connettere l’intero territorio regionale.
How do you plan to respond to this challenge within SubNodes?
Within Subnodes we are having the opportunity to focus the topic related to the connection of the hinterland to the TEN-T network. We activated a dialog with other partners from many regions of the central Europe, learning many interesting details from various experiences and best practices. We will work altogether to find out a common strategy to create subnodes hubs and to improve peripheral networks. We will make an assessment regarding the situation in Lombardy, focusing to the connection of the areas in the north of Lombardy, e.g. Varese, Como, Bergamo, Brescia, to the TEN-T core airports of Milan Malpensa, Milan Linate and Bergamo Orio al Serio. Actually many connections to these airports are still existing, but we would like to improve it, creating a more dense, more frequent and faster transport network serving all Lombardy’s citizens.	Nell’ambito del progetto Subnodes stiamo avendo l’opportunità di focalizzare la nostra attenzione riguardo alle connessioni dalle zone periferiche verso le reti TEN-T. Abbiamo attivato un dialogo con gli altri partner, provenienti da diverse zone dell’Europa Centrale, avendo l’opportunità di imparare dalle diverse esperienze e dalle best practices. Vogliamo continuare a lavorare insieme per creare una strategia comune per la creazione degli hub Subnodes e migliorare le reti secondarie. Faremo poi un approfondimento mirato per la Lombardia, focalizzando la nostra attenzione al collegamento agli aeroporti TEN-T core di Malpensa, Linate e Orio al Serio dalle zone nella parte nord della regione, Varese, Como, Bergamo e Brescia. Attualmente infatti esistono molte connessioni verso questi tre aeroporti, ma vorremmo migliorarle ancora in modo da renderle più capillari e più veloci da tutta la Lombardia.
Which impact do you expect by SubNodes?
Based to the assessments done within Subnodes, we will point out the action that we could launch to improve peripheral network increasing the number and the efficiency of the connections to TEN-T airports. The assessments done within Subnodes will be integrated with the evaluations that Lombardy Region make every day through its own activities, and the final goal will be to update our Regional Program for Mobility and Transport.	In base agli approfondimenti che faremo nell’ambito del progetto Subnodes, potremo ottenere indicazioni circa le azioni da mettere in atto per migliorare le reti secondarie, aumentando il numero e l’efficienza delle connessioni verso gli aeroporti TEN-T. Gli approfondimenti che saranno effettuati nell’ambito del progetto Subnodes si integreranno con le attività e le valutazioni che la Regione già porta avanti nell’ambito dei propri compiti, con la finalità di aggiornare il nostro Programma Regionale della Mobilità e dei Trasporti.
