Study Visit: Lake Balaton

9th - 11th April 2019

Our 2nd study visit took us to (and around) Lake Balaton in Hungary. The study visit commenced with the project's steering committee meeting on 9th April in Siófok, a town located on the eastern shores of the lake. On 10th April, a roundtrip to different stations in the Balaton region was organised by our Hungarian partner, Lake Balaton Development Coordination Agency.

The field trip included a guided tour through the "Herb valley" in Zánka and a visit to Balaton-Uplands National Park in Hegyestű. The Kis-Balaton highly protected area with its buffalo reserve and expansive marsh and wetlands were further stops of the study visit. The participants also had the chance to experience Hungary's culinary heritage, of which wine and fish are the most typical for the area.
