SULPiTER AND EU STRATEGY FOR THE ALPINE REGION

On November 8th-9th, 2016, the Central European Initiative, permanent stakeholder in the EUSALP (EU Strategy for the Alpine Region) Action Group no. 4 on Transport and Mobility, joined the action group meeting which took place in Innsbruck, Austria.

It was the first conference organised by the Action Group 4 focusing on mobility in the Alps. The meeting was open to the general public and it provides a platform for direct exchange with politicians and stakeholders in the frame of EUSALP, and it was the first of a series of annual events on the theme of mobility in the Alps, organized by the EUSALP AG4 leader, the European Region Tyrol-South Tyrol-Trentino.

The CEI presented the audience, comprising EUSALP local, regional and national institutions, private operators and transport stakeholders as well as the DG REGIO of the European Commission, the main activities to be developed within the SULPiTER project, which encompasses three EUSALP Functional Urban Areas (FUAs): Stuttgart (Germany), Brescia (Italy) and Maribor (Slovenia). A fruitful discussion followed, outlining the need to better coordinate between existing projects and activities in the area.

The CEI will remain in contact with the EUSALP WG no.4 and contribute to its discussions also with the results of SULPiTER as soon as they become available.
