MaGICLandscapes in times of COVID-19

The COVID-19 pandemic has changed our everyday lives. European countries and the whole world are trying their best to reduce the infection rate of the Corona virus. We have had to adapt our daily lifestyle habits according to different national regulations and constraints in our partner countries Italy, Austria, Czechia, Poland and Germany. International cooperation in European projects is not what it used to be. Conferences are taking place online, borders are closed and travel to other countries to meet partners and stakeholders in person is not currently possible.

The MaGICLandscapes partners try to make the best out of the situation. The COVID-19 MaGICCollage shows us working from home: in the living room, in the garden, in the kitchen. If she is awake we get some professional support from our project cat Isidoro, from a cup of coffee or two or from our children preserving us from the worse chaos (or was it the other way round? ;-)). During lunch break we enjoy the great view from a blooming balcony over the roofs of Turin. We slowly get used to the daily view of the empty streets of European cities like Turin or Brno. Here and there we are wearing face masks to keep the infection risk low. Our partners in the Giant Mountains are lucky to get out of the office for a lonely snow measuring expedition on the mountains. Our project partners living in central European border regions have withstand the closure of borders once again, like the bridge between Austria and the Czech Republic in Hardegg. This bridge was once the symbol for the reunification and fall of the Iron Curtain in 1989 which was celebrated 30 years still in November 2019 at Hardegg, what a difference a few months make…

We are not giving up and will bring MaGICLandscapes to a successful and lasting conclusion. Like COVID-19 green infrastructure does not know any borders. However COVID-19 will go, unlike green infrastructure which will continue to provide us with many benefits, not least that of health and well-being.
