Malta is taking further legal steps to tackle, in  the long term, the problem of plastic and glass waste. The small island nation has a special reason to be very vigilant about its environment protection and there is a clear developmental reason for the country to be proactive in sparking the change to the Circular Economy.

Malta has introduced the the Beverage Container Refund Scheme (BCRS), but the government also presented the launch of a National Strategy for the Environment, a document published by the Environment & Resources Authority (ERA). This will see the development of policies that will carry Malta through to 2050 and will include strategies on waste management and working towards a carbon-neutral footprint.
