BENEFIT OF THE MONTH #1:
GREEN INFRASTRUCTURE SUPPORTS EDUCATION
Each month MaGICLandscapes introduces a particular benefit of green infrastructure including examples from the project’s case study areas and across Central Europe.
Children, education and nature along the river Kyjovka
On the outskirts of Kyjov in southern Moravia lies the outdoor playschool “Radovánky” (English: fun/enjoyment). The playschool is located in the Boršov Meadows next to the River Kyjovka. Until 2013 the meadows an associated orchards were abandoned, they have now been transformed into an area for education in a natural settin with the help of the Czech Union of Nature Conservation (Czech: Český svaz ochranců přírody).
Radovánky is a good practice example of a communitybased initiative providing benefits such as education, food
production, community interaction and well-being. The institution brings added value to the green infrastructur resource of Kyjov. The playschool is continually supported by the South Moravian Region, the community of Kyjov, several local associations and companies and is funded by the European Social Fund (ESF). Radovánky is part of the Association of Czech forest playschools.
