The Venetian nautical tradition includes an exemplary history of crafts, knowledge and techniques for the construction of wooden boats handed down over the centuries. Today, however, it is in sharp decline, also because it is torn apart by mass tourism that does not value what remains of the most genuine and authentic fabric of the city. And yet, this noble tradition could become the pride and element of attraction for quality tourism.

In the context, the challenge of the Interreg project "YouInHerit", was implemented with a pilot project: the sailing tradition of Venice with the involvement of the younger generations to revitalize the ancient crafts.

To test the new digital itineraries, simply visit the open source platform "Izi Travel", from which you can download free audio guides in Italian and English that invite the visitor to explore the places that still preserve significant testimonies of this tradition. Included are some districts of the historic center, such as Cannaregio and Dorsoduro, the islands of Giudecca and Pellestrina and the immediate lagoon hinterland with Altino.

The routes can be downloaded for free from Izi.Travel: search for "Venice" and then select one of the five titles with "Forgotten Venice: explore its nautical tradition".
