Implementation of the mid-term workhops

Mid-Term Workshop Hungary

The Hungarian workshop took place in the framework of the yearly conference of the Hungarian Association of Logistic, Purchasing and Inventory Management on 16 November 2017 and could win more than 30 participants. The partner organization IFKA organized a separate section where the project, the tool and the pilot phase were presented, together with a live presentation of the CO2 calculator and the Intermodal links platform. After the presentation of the project and the toolbox elements participants discussed about possibilities to extent the tools and the expected consideration of the safety requirements of the chemical industry. The participating manufactures and researchers used the chance to express their interest according to the usage of the tool and the opportunities to use these as important to of academic research.

Mid-Term Workshop Poland

The mid-term workshop was realized in Warsaw on 28 November 2017. Companies that were selected to participate in the pilot phase took part. Focus of the workshop was a presentation of current status of the ChemMultimodal project, the progress of the pilot testing. The potential of the elements of the developed toolbox was explained to help participating companies to effectively plan and manage the modal shift. The case study Synthos S.A. presented its supply management strategy and demonstrated how to develop modal shift based on the ChemMultimodal toolbox. Discussions took place about ideas on how to switch the used road routes to intermodal road-rail solutions in an efficient and environmentally friendly way and different chain management approaches.

Mid-term workshop Saxony-Anhalt

The second pilot workshop of the Saxony-Anhalt team took place on 23 January 2018 in Schwarzheide. More than 120 representatives from the chemical industry, tranport logistics, politics and public administration from Germany and the Czech Republic discussed about the freight transport of tomorrow. The Chemmultimodal partners organised this workshop together with the Cottbus Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the "ERFA KV" project in the BASF visitor center in Schwarzheide. In particular, the workshop offered a platform to exchange knowledge and experiences on the questions:

  • What are the potentials and developments in multimodal transport?
  • Which routes already exist in the region and which ones can be further developed?
  • How can different modes of transport be bundled and multimodal transport realized in practice?

In view of increasing congestions in freight road transport and the increasing shortage of skilled workers in transport logistics, the industry is becoming more and more interested in multimodal transport and thus in the EU project "ChemMultimodal". To this end, ChemMultimodal had the opportunity to present first results of its pilot project which is focused on identifying potentials for shifting transports from road to multimodal transport.

Mid-term Workshop Austria

In Austria, the mid-term workshop was divided into two meetings to better suit the needs of the participating companies. The first part took place on 16 November 2017 and the second part on 23 January 2018 in Linz. After introducing the toolbox and its elements, the toolbox has been applied to several previously identified routes of the participating companies. Current issues of multimodal transport and specific challenges chemical companies are facing when transporting multimodal have been also discussed.
